IU and her start in Music

Ji Eun Lee, is a super cute and now, super famous kpop artist. She was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1993 and made her first debut on September 24th, 2008 at the young age of 15.

IU started studying music early on during her school years. She was lucky enough to have a formal music education. From this, she learned song writing, vocals, and playing instruments like the piano and the guitar.

When she was about 11 years old she stopped her musical education and started going to auditions. She was not accepted for several reasons such as not being pretty enough or the lack of dancing skills. Even the famous entertainment company JYPE turned IU down when she was about 14. The owner of JYPE, says that turning down IU might have been one of his biggest mistakes. He also co-starred with her on the tv show Dream High.

After tons of auditions she eventually signed a contract with LOEN Entertainment. Probably one of the best decisions the company could have ever made!

IU Was one of the first Female artists I really enjoyed listening too. Her voice seemed very angelic to me. The first music video I ever saw of her, was this one posted above. The one where IU does a cover of soem of the really popular kpop songs by other famous groups. I was so shocked to see a kpop artist playing the guitar and singing. Usually they just dance ( which I would never complain about that ^_^ )

So here we have this young beautiful girl playing a guitar on stage singing beautifully. How could that not catch your attention? I started checking out some of her other songs. Her voice is very consistent and she can really hit those high notes well. Better than most of the other Korean pop stars. Her songs for the most part are pretty laid back and rely mostly on her vocal skills. Some include a more upbeat rock sound but nothing like the electro-pop styles of rival groups like 4Minute or 2NE1.

There was this one music video I watched with IU during an interview. It was some nerdy looking TV host and IU walking outside in the freezing cold streets of Seoul, South Korea. He was asking her all kinds of silly questions, and IU was giving very funny, but honest answers. One of the questions was, " What do you want to see?" And she replied, " I would really like to go see an all boys high school" ( She attends an all girls high school, and was curious to see what its like with only boys there )

Parts of the interview were very candid as she would talk about her family and her close relationships with them. To conclude the interview, IU told the host that she woudl liek to give a street performance to her fans. She is always asked to play some music inside the studio or on stage, and felt that her fans deserve a real live acoustic performance. That sounded fun to her. So out in the blistering cold, guitar in hand, she played for a small audience on the streets of Seoul, South Korea!
